Student Profiles
We wanted to take a moment to profile some of the students who're taking Epoch courses. Maybe you're thinking about taking a class or checking out a lecture, but you secretly wonder who else may be there. Well, wonder now longer ...
Student Profile: Soe
Soe is the pastor of Gateway Myanmar Baptist Church in Surrey. He originally came to Vancouver in the mid-1990's as a refugee from Rangoon (Yangon) in what used to be called Burma (Myanmar). The church meets close to the Gateway Skytrain Station and is a 3 year old church plant. When asked why he decided to take an Epoch course Soe explained that, "Epoch classes widen the Christian's sphere from the church to cities." He went on to say how even the fact that we meet in the back boardroom of a Waves Coffee is part of it. "The classes have given me time to look beyond the box of my own world. God has a divine plan for the cities, where am I going to be?"
Student Profile: Conrad
Conrad is a Youth Catalyst with the Canadian National Baptist Convention, and serves as an Associate Pastor with Living Word Church in Vancouver. As a Youth Catalyst, Conrad connects with CNBC churches in Vancouver to help them start or grow their youth ministries. When asked why he decided to take an Epoch course, Conrad notes that "Urban ministries are something that evangelical Christians either know not much about or perhaps even subconsciously distance ourselves from - and let's face it, the dinner hour newscasts don't portray cities as safe and family-friendly. We often run from spiritually dark places - but that's exactly where Jesus went in His ministry. Epoch courses do well in exploring and challenging the stereotypical evangelical mindsets."
